An elegant counterpart to Marilyn Merlot, the Marilyn Cabernet wines offer
great depth of flavor and character, and complexities that evolve beautifully
in the cellar.
Marilyn Cabernet wines are produced entirely from selected Napa Valley vineyards
and usually include a small proportion of Cabernet Franc and Merlot to balance
and polish the predominant Cabernet Sauvignon. They are aged for two years
in small French oak cooperage and another two years in bottle before release.
Beginning with the 1993 vintage, Marilyn Cabernet wines have been produced
each year in very small quantities of individually numbered bottles. The first
five vintages of Marilyn Cabernet - 1993 through 1997 - feature labels designed
by Susann Ortega of Ortega Design Studio as variations of a single photograph
of Marilyn Monroe. These vintages also comprise a vertical collection. A second
five-year vertical collection is now available through 2002. The 1998 through 2002 Marilyn Cabernets also feature
label art derived from a single photograph of Marilyn Monroe, each one a variation
digitally rendered by designer Susann Ortega.
Whether purchased as individual vintages or in a vertical collection, the
Marilyn Cabernet wines offer inimitable style and exceptional opportunity
for the collector.

1997 Marilyn Cabernet
Release date: Fall, 2001
The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot grapes grown in the Napa Valley in 1997 were unlike any other vintage in the 1990's. Nearly perfect growing conditions allowed winemakers to produce some of the most compelling wines of the decade. Such is the case with the 1997 Marilyn Cabernet.
The dark and vibrant color of the 1997 Marilyn Cabernet is just the tip of the iceberg of this youthful wine. The aromas of blackberries and currants are spiced with shades of anise, cloves, and toasty oak. The flavors of ripe and jammy respberries, cinnamon, coconut, and vanilla are woven into a wine which beckons for another taste. This wine is quite approachable now due to its ripe and rich mouth feel. It will continue to develop for another 5 to 7 years.
This is the last vintage in this series of five vintages. Only a few hundred
cases were produced.
